Discovery’s Global Missions

Discovery exists to share Christ with compassion and develop followers fully devoted to Christ

In every age, God’s people have pushed back the world’s darkness by making Jesus known and bringing His light. No adventure greater. No challenge higher. No goal worthier…. Let’s do this, Discovery!

Missions Partners 2019

Eternal Anchor: Mexico

In rural Mexico, people with special needs have few options. Eternal Anchor offers hope to children and adults with special needs–and to their families–by providing education, training, and therapy in a Jesus-centered context. This happens through:

  • daily special needs school serving over 40 children and their families
  • daily life skills classes for adults with special needs
  • a home for special needs children who do not have family care
  • semi-weekly horse therapy
  • outreach and training for families and community medical and educational staff working with special needs populations.

Discovery! In 2018, you enabled Eternal Anchor to expand into the daily adult program by funding salaries for five teachers!

2019 Goal: $1000/month to continue to fund five full-time teachers

Team trips to Eternal Anchor, Mexico: March 31 to April 6, 2019; June 23 to 29, 2019; July 7 to 13, 2019 (Applications for partial scholarships are available!)

Unreached People: African Islands

This region is 99.9% Isl.m.c. Christian outreach is prosecutable in court, and social pressures to remain in Islam are immense. Minimal amounts of scripture are available in only two of the four Islander dialects, and the tiny Island Christian community is only loosely connected to each other.

No significant movement to Christ has ever happened in a people group without a substantial portion of scripture in their native tongue.

Discovery! For the past two years, you have partnered with workers on the ground to provide groundbreaking translations of the story of scripture in visual form for this largely illiterate people group.

2019 Goal: $600/month to support the worker couple in their continuing oral and written scripture translation, outreach and leadership development work.

Persecuted Church: Centers of Hope (Iraq) and

Centers of Hope (Iraq): Over 900,000 Christians fled when ISIS invaded in 2015. Discovery! In partnership with Open Doors, you provided emergency food and supplies, and each year as the need has changed, your response has changed with it. For the last two years, at the request of Iraqi believers, we provided trauma training to equip local leadership. Believers now are rebuilding and reaching out, by offering holistic programs: counseling and trauma response, life skills training, medical assistance, home repair, and micro-enterprise development–in addition to discipleship training.

2019 Goal: $12,500 to provide 50% of the costs for a new Center of Hope in Iraq.

Women’s Empowerment Program: Uganda

In this region of Uganda, unskilled women and their children become vulnerable to trafficking and other exploitations. The Women’s Empowerment Program partners with local Ugandan churches to set up micro-enterprise training and development centers as an outreach to their communities, equipping these women to be self-supporting. Discovery! You helped launch a training facility for churches seeking to implement this outreach, enabling program expansion.

2019 Goal: $5,000 to provide 10 sewing machines and to launch two to three programs in new regions.

Team trip to Uganda and East African Islands: March 4 to 18, 2019 (Applications for partial scholarships are available!)

Missions Northwest

Arabic Healing Church: Egyptian immigrant, Pastor Fayze Hanna, planted an Arabic church in Vancouver, Washington in 2017–one of the local regions with the highest concentration of Arabic speakers. AHC has grown substantially since last year’s launch. In addition to meeting spiritual needs, AHC also meets the often challenging physical and social needs of these new immigrants and refugees. Their acts of compassion are so compelling that they even have Arab Muslims attending their church!

2019 Goal: $5,000

Native American Ministries: Washington State is home to one of the largest populations of Native Americans in the United States, and Discovery has a number of active tribal members. We partner with local native ministries to support outreach and discipleship events in Native contexts. Our most recent example was ministry at the 2018 Tribal Canoe Journey.

2019 Goal: $3,000

New City Church: In 2015, Discovery hosted Kevin Yi as an apprentice church planter. He launched Kaleo church in Tacoma and has now combined with another church, creating New City Church at the STAR Center. Discovery continues to partner through relational and mentor support, financial gifts and prayer.

2019 Goal: $3,000

Click here to give one time or monthly, or visit the “GIVE” table on Sunday mornings in November. Why give through Discovery? We can accomplish so much more together than we would as individuals. Collectively, we’ve been able to equip Eternal Anchor to take its Adult Program from once a week to daily, because of staff additions. And collectively, we’ve been able to provide Open Doors in Iraq with complete trauma training for community workers and to launch its Centers of Hope in the Iraq/Syria region. There are currently six Center of Hope, with the plan to launch 30 more in 2019 as resources are available! Collectively, we were able to provide Manna Mission two entire truckloads of grain for the bakery, increasing their capacity by over 100,000 over the year. Thank you for your giving!
