Love Tacoma: Litter Free 253

COMMUNITY CARE ALERT! Show the Lincoln District a couple hours of love!

We're partnering with Litter Free 253 for a morning of service in our core community, serving alongside neighbors who sign up on our Litter Free 253 team. With Lincoln High as our start and end point, we’ll do a clean sweep through the nearby streets. See below for more information from the Litter Free 253 coordinators about what to expect, what to bring, and good practices for the event.

What to expect

This equipment will be provided:

• City of Tacoma garbage bags
• Disposable gloves
• Litter grabbers (while supplies last)

What to bring

• A Love Tacoma t-shirt, if you have one (some will be available when you show up — while supplies last)
• Clothes for the weather 
• Thick-soled, closed-toed shoes
• Long pants and a long-sleeved (under)shirt
• Safety vest or bright colors for visibility 
• Gloves and a litter grabber if you have one
• Hand sanitizer

Safety

• The “buddy system” - Work in teams of two or three to maximize safety.
• Children - Kids need to be accompanied and supervised by their parents.
• Hazards - Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards such as passing cars, hazardous tree branches, blackberry bush thorns, etc.
• Sharp objects - Pick up sharp objects with a litter grabber only and place them in a plastic Sharps Container with a lid.
• No dogs - For this event, organizers discourage bringing dogs, except for service animals.
• Illegal dumping – Report illegal dumping, graffiti, tires, animal carcasses and other hazardous materials to our Litter Leader, Kelly Swaleson. 
• Keep clean – Use your hand sanitizer!

Wrapping up

• Tie up your filled bags and leave them at our meet-up starting point at Lincoln.
• Find your Litter Leader (Kelly Swaleson) to return any unused supplies.
